I have a beautiful 01 zx7r i just bought two weeks ago. It has a muzzy slip on, its jetted, and honestly, i dont know what else it has performance wise. But... i need it to be faster. it has that notorious flat spot around 3k, pulls hard up there after, but i just need more.
Now, i know these bikes were made to race, so where are all the race goodies? HP wise, i want my bike to compete with liters. does anyone know how to do that? thanks.
p.s., i already looked into ignition advancers, sprocket changes, a "flo commander", full exhaust (i dont really know if their worth it), k&n filters.

do people throw rocks at you when you walk down the street? if i lived near you i would.

so we're talkin 'equal rider ability' then eh? ok, consider this... lets say we have two equally able riders coming out of a hard 2nd gear corner, one on a 7 and the other on an R1 (or any other litre bike for that matter) after passing passing the apex, the rider on the 7 starts to straighten up and gets hard on the gas.. what happens? the bike plants, the front tire stays where it's supposed to and he's gone. about a second later, the rider on the R1 passes the apex and proceeds to do the same thing, what happens? he ends up wearing his Yamaha as a hat.. or he highsides...

if we're talking about street riding, then we're not talking about pro riders here.. we're talking about the average guy that spends 90% of his time riding on straight boring roads.. but the fact is, the 7 makes anyone a better rider than they actually are, it's forgiving.. an R1 isnt.

True he will most likely become a human golf tee if hard on the throttle, but the thing you are missing is the fact that he dosen't have to be hard on the gas to beat the 7R. He can use much less throttle and still have the same effect....No you can't just crack the throttle on a litre bike like you can on a smaller bore bike without having a very bad day. But you don't ride a litre bike like you ride a middleweight bike. They don't let you use the same sloppy ass riding technique that other bikes will let you get away with. So to some it up, if the 2 riders of equal skill had the same sloppy ass technique then maybe the 7R would win. However if said riders are smooth with the throttle and clutch....goodbye 7R....

Think about it dude Moto GP bikes run 230 bhp plus and weigh in below 350 lbs. What keeps them from instantly looping out? Smooth power delivery. Any hack can crack the throttle coming out of a corner on a bike that has to be manhandled or provoked to get out of sorts.

Lumberg you do know that 750's are heavyweights, hence why they were in the Superbike catagory not Supersport. Why the hard-on for the 7r's, did someone on a 7 hand you your ass? I bet it was a stock 7.

#56 ·
MOTOGP bikes have so many electronics/engine management systems on them now(they have almost become F1 clones)....NOBODY can race a 230bhp/320lbs bike with out some serious engine management or they will die! Watch the older GPs and see how many more highsides there were-"the aprilla was almost unrideable-you knew you were riding it"thats from colin edwards...

so just cause my bike lets me get hard on the throttle sooner when coming out of a corner, that makes my riding "sloppy assed"???

just cause my bike is more predictable, less twitchy and skittish than a over powered litre bike makes my riding "sloppy assed"???

i dont have a lot of track experience, but i think im a decent rider, i think my limits are just a bit short of my bikes limits. that being said, there is no way i would be faster around any track on an R1 than i would be on my 7... to think otherwise would mean that your head has been up your ass too long and your brain is being starved for oxygen.

if we're talkin about fuckin world class riders then yah, the 7 doesnt stand a chance but we're not! we're talkin about joe blow that rides on the street and maybe has some track days under his belt. if you want to be a better rider, or at least appear like one.. how about getting a bike that flatters you instead of one that magnifies any and all shortcomings in your riding ability.

Caboose is right. There is really no such thing as 2 riders with exactly equal skill/talent/ability, whether professionally or recreationally, so no use in talking about that.
Lumberg, whatever you ride I'm sure is a sweet bike. The ZX7R's are sweet, too.

Lumberg, I see you are in NC. Perhaps you could find your way to the dragon memorial day weekend or labor day weekend. I'd like to see how long I have to wait on you at the watering hole, starting at Fugitive bridge (on my lardy yellow 2k1 ZX-7R). By the way, it is a 40 second wait on my friends 1000RR and over a minute wait for my other buddy on that sad gsxr600! --5150[:p]

I'm truly humbled and in awe of your totally unprovable/unverifiable story! You are a god among motorcyclists and I concede victory in our hypothetical race as you would clearly embarrass and demasculate me with your untouchable riding skills. However, it still doesn’t change the fact that mine is bigger than yours......ask your mom.

Give me a break..."wanna race"....what are you 12?

Lumberg you shouldn't have any problems beating 5150 since he is on a fat assed 7, and your on a nimble 6r. Where I'm from if you go to someones house and run your mouth, and when they challenge you and you puss out, that means your a bitch. You've lost all creditbility in my eyes. Do us all a favor and troll somewhere else.

wow, this thread got quite interesting since the last time i stopped in. I do have to admit tho, Me, being the ultimate noob, is already hanging with my buddies who have been riding a year longer on his f4i. but maybe the 7r's weight is kinda cheating in corners? but who cares, i can still beat him in the straights too. Plus, those 636's are kinda cheating as well. but who ever says anything about that. ha

I've lost all credibility because I'm not going to put my life on hold and ride across the state to the Carolina/Tennessee border to race some jackass on an internet forum? I see your reading comprehension is rivaled by your geographic awareness. You do realize that is on the other side of NC right? And you do realize that this is an internet forum right? You sir are an idiot. How do I know? Only an idiot such as yourself would ride across an entire state to race some jackass who talked shit on a forum. Unlike you, I have a life outside the internet.....hmmm imagine that. I also possess something you clearly do not...maturity. But at least this whole internet thing isn’t a total loss for you seeing as how you met your boyfriend Caboose here. [:M43][:M83]

Of course you won't ride a few hours(your state's not that big) to race 5150 cause you know deep down you that a 7 with a decent rider will put a beating on you and your 6. I may not be the brightest star in the sky but at least I can hold my head up high because I'm not a bitch. Just to clear up any confusion your the idiot talking shit, 5150 challenged you to a race, you are scared so of course your not going to race, and that is why your a bitch. Now tuck your tail between your legs and back you the rock you crawled ou from under. I bet you would have no problems going over to the old school 6r section and talk some shit over there.

Who told you that you’re not a bitch......your mom? Guess what?! She lies......Sounds to me like you have a severe inferiority complex, seeing as how you got your panties all up in a bunch over a hypothetical "race" that would take place almost an entire state away, involving 2 guys you don't know, for what? To prove that one of us can/cannot beat the other no name off of an internet forum? What do you think this is? The dark ages, where if the local idiot (you) challenges someone to a dual it would be an impingement on thier honor to decline? You truly are an idiot! Thus the reasoning behind why I am still posting on this lame ass thread: as a source of entertainment. Come on man! My buddies and I are laughing our collective asses off at your expense. You are so totally set on what you beleve to be true that you won't even consider the other possibilities. The hysterical part is that your mostly wrong and to arrogant to beleive someone else might be right. Oh, by the way my buddies and I work at a bike shop, where we sell Kawi, Suzuki, Yamaha, Aprillia, Ducati, Bombardier. See, because we are a large bike shop we get to ride MANY different bikes giving us a distinct advantage over the avg. joe. Also it is probably worth noting that quite a few of us race, one racing in WERA expert class. So yes we know all about your precious 7R and although we all RESPECT it, we all know that it won't beat a litre bike....and that you, like most guys on this thread have never ridden one to compare it to, thus your "It's hard to see with my head shoved up my ass" point of view. We do RESPECT the bike, just not you.... On our behalf I thank you and truly hope you will continue with the entertainment/embarrasment.....[:M13][:M83]

I think Lumberg got away from his handler again. What do I know since I'm only the village idiot with an inferiority complex, what am I doing riding a 7 I should trade it in for a supersized truck.[^]

I hate to say it but I really don't find anything wrong with traveling across a state to race someone I don't know. I don't know what's so funny about it.
At the very least it would be a blast no matter who one. Maybe you should stick to a cage or something.

I must agree that I had'nt the time to read all the post.
Fact is that my ZX7 weight about 185 with fuel ( if think it's something like 390 lbs)
I had a ZX10 last year so I can compare the two one (don't forget ,my bike isn't a genuine ZX7 :D)
For the power, it's seems to be equal, but the thorque of the ZX10 was better (Wheelie at over 120 Mph without a problem). ( the ZX10 rev only to 12500, the ZX7 to 14000, and that's a lot nicer, the sound is incredible past 13000 :D)

The Zx10 is better in maniability
The ZX10 is a nervous bike, difficult to setup up but has great potential.
The ZX7 has a better stability, and she's easy to setup.

For my, the first thing to do is to change the wheels with magnesium one,the difference is awesome ( weight and maniability)
The you can look for a good exhaust sytem ( save weight, gain some HP )

After that, if you want to increase your HP, try some engine tuning ( I don't like the ZX9 engine, it revs only to 12500 [8D])
