-2008 zzr 600 spark issue
-Checked/replaced- battery(several please don’t even mention it), spark plug, coil, wire corrosion, ic igniter, pick-up coil, clutch and side stand switch seem to be operating
-I can stick an multimeter in the coil and get 12v just never pulses, stays constant 12
-I can get maybe 3 sparks after the battery has been on a 12v 6amp charge for 5-10 minutes, with it still charging( I know this points to battery but it just can’t be)
- I checked the gray wire and tried with with or without a resistor spliced in, no change
Any other ideas?

Ok lets try and break it down from your opening post.

  1. New Battery on it at the moment ?
  2. Replaced Spark Plug, I assume you meant Plugs ?
  3. Replaced Coil, I assume you meant Coils ?
  4. Wire corrosion ! Explain please ?
  5. Checked the Grey Wire, How exactly ?
Now some additional info please.
  • How many Miles has the Bike covered ?
  • What led up to the issue ?
  • Is the OEM Ignition Switch still fitted ?
  • Are all the parts above that got replaced NEW ?
  • Have you checked all Electrical Connections for corrosion ?
So your not doing the Battery any favours whacking 6amps into it despite the short duration as this will over heat the plates.
Do you have say a 1A charger ? I know it takes longer to charge but that treats the Battery respectfully.

You say you can get 3 sparks then nothing, Is that because the Battery flattens or it stops firing ?

1.New battery
2.Spark plugs
3.Yes
4.I checked for wire corrosion…switch corrosion
5.Multimeter for gray wire
6k miles
-Bought from a guy not running said it was carbs… not true
-I don’t think it’s oem ignition it’s riveted together but I spliced in the resistor it may have needed and it didn’t change
-Didn’t replace anything but the battery and ic igniter everything else was resistance tested, for the pick up coil I couldn’t do the test that required the extra multimeter tool but resistance was in spec
-I’ve tried several fully trickle charged battery’s with volts in spec it’s not the battery
- I get 1 to 3 sparks while cranking and then it stops without any change to cranking speed

Biggest issue I see with these bikes is bad grounds, I replaced all the grounds on the motorcycle with new wires and it fixed my no start issue. I pulled the entire loom out of my bike when I bought it wrecked and went over every wire and found the voltage reg/rec had a bad connector and shorted the ground wire melting it.

I would suggest removing your fairings, and harness. Go thru the wires and make sure you replace any wires that look pinches, damaged, etc. Its tedious but I trust all of my previously purchased wrecked motorcycles to drive across the country without a problem.
