Question: Adjusting Chain Tension

So, my chain is REALLY tight...there is very little range to the chain so I was going to adjust the chain to give it more slack, but after further inspection it looks like it probably won't give any more which means changing the chain correct or are my eyes deceiving me. After looking at the pics again, it looks like I should be able to adjust the chain tension by a lot. Thought?

Here are some pics...any input would be greatly appreciated.

your chain is too short.

did you buy new sprockets and not change your chain?

ideally you want to be around the middle of the adjustment ticks on the swingarm.

That is a 42 tooth sprocket, I'd bet money on it. There should be enough adjustment left to put some slack in the chain, but your bolt and jam nut will pretty much both be jammed up against the swingarm. 42 teeth is the max on a stock-length chain without going -1 in the front...which will still be stock on your bike.

Also, ditch the Vortex sprocket. It will not last long.

Edit: I just noticed this is an 07-08 bike...I'm not sure on the tooth count, but I'm sure it's +2 over stock.

It has a -1/+2 setup and I do have an extra 520 chain that I probably can put on to replace the current one. It definitely look like even if I adjusted the bolt to be completely mashed up together, it would still not give enough slack.

I am not sure I have the cash to get new sprockets and this will be my track bike so I think I should be ok right for now?

Anyone know how tough it is to change the chain? I know you are supposed to change the sprockets at the same time, but I really do not want to spend more money so I am just going to put the extra used 520 chain I received with the bike and install it instead.

I have neither. Maybe it would be easier to just have someone change everything out for me (unless there is a good DIY out there for me to use as reference). So I guess I will start researching on affordable sprockets and chains...any recommendations on quality but affordable?

I was just thinking...my bike is currently lowered but I just purchased some stock rear links to bring it back to stock height. Once I do...will it not bring the swing arm closer giving the chain more slack? Am I thinking correctly about this?

Your swingarm position isn't static. Dogbones will adjust the slack slightly, but you still need to account for the full travel of the swingarm. This will not be a final solution, I'd see how far fowards you can get the axle and then get a new chain if need be.
