good evening/morning(depending on which part of the world ur in) bros.

my bike has recently shown excess vibration which can be felt on the foot pegs, tank and handlebars.

mileage around 20,000KM.. recently serviced with motul 5100.

the vibration occurs(most noticeable) during higher RPMS 4K and above. and also very noticeable when remain on a constant RPM 4k and above. so if im just cruising at about 90km/h and above on the freeway, its really really annoying. im the 1st and only owner, bike has been very well maintained and serviced regularly. it also vibrates when on neutral, if i hold it at a steady rpm, i can feel that same vibration.

what ive done so far.

1.New oil
2.New air filter
3.New plugs
4.Tightened mountings

Really appreciate if anyone can get me through this. its really pissing off, and i love my bike very much.

I remember this one time I decided to change the plugs on a previous bike. When I went out for a ride it had some serious vibration problems. I took the plugs out and the tip on one of them was bent. I had no idea what happen, my only assumption was that I tightened it too much and thought maybe the piston was hitting it or something, I dont know I might be completely wrong. It wouldnt hurt to check the plugs I guess :p

this happened even befoire changing the plugs.

bro tony,

i havent done a compression test, that would require me to go over to the mechs. was hoping to get more ideas what could be the cause of this, and stuff that i can troubleshoot on my own, before heading over to the mech.

Well, if you can borrow a gauge you can check the compression yourself. If I were you I would not run the bike until you figure out the problem- you could cause a lot more damage if it's a ring or bearing that's about to fail.

If you're feeling it through the pegs it might be worth having a close look at the condition of the chain and sprockets. My experience is that the stock front sprocket can start to hook at this sort of mileage and you can't really see it until you take the sprocket off. Add a couple of tight spots on the chain and you might have the sort of vibration you're describing.

If you're sure it's engine related, check the TB synch and maybe link the TB vac gauge take off points. Another possibility on this bike is a coil that's starting to fail. If there was any corosion on the coil sleeve and you had to pull a bit to remove the coil there's a good chance you've damaged a primary winding. Again, you've done the sort of mileage where this problem can be expected to appear.

I don't think you've got the sort of issue that needs parts of the motor dismantling.

if it it vibrates on neutral and bike is at standstill, shouldnt be linked to chain or sprocket. am i right to say this?

i have a feeling its engine related.

was planning to do the IAP mod, i read somewhere, and alos the TB sync, but to do the sync, ill need some sort of device which i dont think i can get here in malaysia.

i should also check out the coil.

Any other symptoms besides the vibration? Misses, hicups, weird idle, power loss, ticking noises? You said you checked all the mounts, were you referring to the motor mounts? When you changed your oil did you notice any foamy white residue or metal shavings? Do the vibrations change with rpm or speed in a consistant manner? Meaning faster you go, faster the vibrations or do they smooth out in higher rpms or lower rpms? I would agree with tony, you should do a compression test, you can buy a compression guage at an auto parts store for around 60-90 bucks and do it yourself, its really simple. If none of the things listed above show any real problems, i would start thinking about a tear down. Even though its only 20,000KM, things can still break if you are the unfortunate one.

nothing in the oil, looked normal. no hicups,no misses, idle is fine also, power still there. ticking noise yes, the normal one that i think most ppl talk about for kawas.mounts were checked by my mech and tightened

if i recall correctly, before this started after rpm 5k, the engine gets smooth, but now even after 5 it still vibrating and stays up to even 8k rpm. normally once im around 100km/h and above i feel it. but lets say im on 1st now at a traffic light and decide to full throttle and accelerate all the way up to 140-160 the bike performs fine, and hardly any vibration will be noticed, but once i maintain a certain speed or start to slow down to cruise, than it happens again..the vibrations is not head shaking or violent..but its just that if its possible ill like to know whats causing it..

So underload the vibrations are gone, idle and cruising they are near constant. Higher speeds seem to reduce the vibrations. I would have to say its something internal to the engine, i would start with the crank. Something is out of balance in your engine, most likely in the lower end. If it was top end it would be more of a tick or power hiccup. Ive never taken these engines apart before, but i would imagine you can take the crank out without removing the pistons.

When is the valve job due?
