WTF?? Coolant leak?

So I get to work this morning to realize that there's steam coming from the rear of my front tire. It look like I ran through wet cement but I saw some green fluid and right away I knew it was coolant. I guess it looks that way because the header and block are so hot?

The bike has been running strong and no over-heating (yet) so I'm think it's not the head gasket. My bike is completely stock with the exception of the gutted muffler and I don't beat on her too much. Mainly use my bike for commuting to work.

Is there some type of drain plug or anything I should look out for? I haven't really had the time to get a good look at it yet.

One of the drain plugs is in front just to the left side of the bike on the engine. I can tell you right now it's not that drain plug. You've either cracked the radiator or one of the hoses is damaged.

Thanks for the quick response....I didn't see much coolant on the radiatior at all so I'm leaning a bit towards a faulty hose. Most of the coolant is on the base of the block and collector of the header.

I've had a blown head gasket on my car before but would I notice an immeadiate difference if this were to happen on my bike? I know this might be a symptom of a blown head gasket (coolant on the block) but i would think there would be a loss in compression as well. The bike's power seems normal though...

Yeah I drove a 07 with a blown head gasket before I bought it for a friend. The guy had no idea that it was blown and I couldn't even tell the difference between one that didn't have a blown one and his...the only reason I saw it was because I knew of the 07-08 leak oil.

It looks like the hose on the right side of the bike. Look at all that coolant on the hose in the first pic. Maybe your radiator cap is loose.

The oil leak is the valve cover gasket, not the head gasket. If it was the valve cover you wouldn't notice at all in the way the bike rides.

I see. Well I'm hoping I can cruise it home so I can take a better look at it.

I can't even remember what side the stupid cap is on...I'll check that too though..

Yeah that's what I'll have to do....I can just drop some in the resovoir and allow the vacum to suck it up, right? I don't have any tools here @ work...fuckin golf club...useless.

Sorry But I left town last nite after taking my bike apart. I'm pretty sure the radiator is bad. Near the middle bottom there are some fins that are bent and the bottom of the rad had green stain on it...wonderful.

Let me know if you guys have spare radiator laying around.

I seem to be having around the same problem but not as much coolant as you I have a small coolant leak that is dripping right down on to my exhaust I see a little steam come up when the weathers warm from the leak, Ill have to check the radiator I dont think of that... A coolant leak can come out of the head gasket also right? how many miles do you have on your bike?

Thanks,
Tyler

A couple years ago I had a radiator leak. The bottom part of the fan bracket broke apart and was scraping the radiator fins causing a leak. Here are photos. I fabbed a new bracket.

And the next pics are the silver bracket I made. Then used BARS stop leak to fix. To this date I have no leak.
