Icon Helmet sizing question

Hello all,

I just purchased an icon alliance helmet size Large and I think it might be just a bit to big for me. I previously wore an HJC size small but it fit a bit snug and has been worn for atleast 4years. I went to the shop and tried on both icon medium and icon large and the large just felt like a better fit, when I was there.

Well I just recieved my helmet today and went for a ride and it just feels a bit bulky and maybe to big for my head. I'm curious if I just changed the liner out to a size medium if that would help or if the shell is actually whats to big? Maybe its just that I'm used to the much smaller different brand helmet?

Anyone have any experience simular to this where they changed out the liner and it worked out? Can I even put a medium liner in?

Thanks in advance.

Pretty sure the shell is what is too big.

Depending where you bought it from, they may allow you to return it and exchange for a medium.

If the helmet fits a bit snug because of the liner, know that the padding will form to your head/face as you wear it more.

Right now, my ICON XL is actually tighter than what my HJC XL was, but, hopefully it'll form to me as I wear it more.

yea unfortunately thats what I'm thinking to :(

The thing is, they quit making the tyranny and only other size available was an xsmall and I couldn't even get my head into the shell. From what Ive read there are actually only 3 shells with the liner's making up the difference. xsmall, small/medium, large +

It just feels bulky to me, not totally uncomfortable though. I'll pick up a medium liner and hopefully that will help out, and fit inside the shell!

I've seen the Tyranny still available in all sizes on some websites. That is the helmet I have as well.

For example..
Icon Alliance Tyranny Helmet - 2011 :: MotorcycleGear.com

Also, Medium padding won't fit in a large.

There are 2 shell sizes (Medium/Large)

XS/S/M fit "Medium Shell"
L/XL/XXL fit "Large Shell"

Another note.. Medium ICON Tyranny cheek pads are 30mm .. Large ICON Tyranny cheek pads are also 30mm. The reason the medium is tighter, is because it's a tighter shell.

Hate to say it but it may not be the helmet for you then. While it is a good looking helmet, you want a helmet that is firm, and feels good. Especially when you get at higher speeds on the highway or at the track. You don't want the helmet having too much space to blow your head around, and cause a lot of wind noise.

yea I hear that unfortunately. Man looking at the manual the sizing really doesn't make alot of sense. XS with 30mm cheek pad and 12mm liner, S with 30mm cheek pad and 15mm liner, Medium with 25mm cheek and 12mm liner.

So comparing the Xsmall with Small, the small actually has a thicker liner with same size cheek pads in the same shell?

I bet the L size you tried on in the store was worn in from a lot of test fittings. Besides if you were a small size with another helmet brand, there is little chance you'd skip a size to the next larger one from another manufacturer. Small wouldn't necessarily equate to jumping to L in another manufacturer. M is probably where you would be.
