Paint ER-6n black or buy black plastics?

I crashed my ER-6n shortly after getting it and it scratched up a bunch of the plastic pieces. Structurally, nothing really got damaged.

I was thinking of buying new flat black OEM pieces, but I wonder if it would be a waste of money. I could paint it myself (flat black is pretty damn easy, done it before with my old bike), or I could get a professional to do it.

One advantage to not painting the pieces is I could sell them used on ebay. Even though they are scratched they might still be useful for someone that obliterated their bike.

Do you think it's worth buying the parts from Kawasaki and selling my old parts on ebay? Are my old parts really going to be worth anything? If not then I guess I might as well try painting it myself or getting it painted and if it turns out bad I could always buy the new parts anyways.

What do you guys think? How much would it cost to get all the plastics painted on an ER6n? Thanks.

Oh, I thought of another option. If the scratches aren't too deep or if you are going to be doing some sanding and smoothing anyhow you could go with vinyl accents. Matching the blue will be pretty tough so if you can get away with just easily adding a couple accent decals then it may be worth just doing that.

I did that with my Triumph (car). I had a small ding in the front of the hood so I popped it out, smoothed it out and put a vinyl racing stripe down the entire length of the car. It turned out pretty cool.

The Flat Black ER6n looks awesome IMO-

Shouldn't be hard to get a decent result with a rattle can.

Mixing Flat Black with other colors looks good too-

Post up some pics of your bike so we can see what we're talking about.

Ride On!

I vote paint them yourself. That's what I do. I'll never buy new plastics for my ZZR. I repair and repaint my own stuff really cheap, but without really cheap results. The more I do it, the better I get at it. Very gratifying. On the other hand though, your plastics will sell for a pretty penny on ebay. Every mildly goofed side fairing I see for my bike ends up going for well over $100 by auction end. I still say paint 'em yourelf.

Damn that vinyl wrap seems like it would be a good idea...easy to replace when it wears out.

Anyways, I sprayed a few pieces today (headlight cover, gauge cap, and rad shrouds). I think they're going to come out really good. Not perfect because I have an extremely small space to work in (apartment patio :(). I'll take some pics tomorrow once they finish drying.

I'm still not sure what to do with the tank - I don't think I want to go full-on matte black with it, might as well add a little custom work in there, maybe leave a stripe of blue down the middle or something.

I'm really like the black shrouds. I am not sure what I'm going to do next. The tank needs to be painted due to heavy scratches on the left side (I don't want it to rust ). I don't think I want to go all black though...maybe I'll leave a blue stripe in the middle or something and see how it comes out.
