Regulator test

I have a 2020 230 KLX and suspect the voltage regulator is bad. It is a very expensive regulator and would like to know how to test it before I buy a new one. I don't think it can be tested with ohm meter like most can. Generator putting out 50 volts Ac or more on each pair of the three phase's, at high RPM. All wiring is connected tightly. Battery is new and test is good.

It's a $300 part and the only way to tell it's working apparently is to install it and see if it's charging. Why would Kawasaki make a $300 5 wire voltage regulator. Do you know if there's something special about it?
