That's the temperature I usually experience when I'm riding in heavy traffic.

I dont really care of the temp, it just seems to run like shit and is choppy at anything under 100 so i just let it idle untill i can get my gear on.

allowing a cold motor to idle up to temp causes far more wear than driving it cold and avoiding any heavy loads. you need to circulate the oil too...

Exactlty. This is why I don't let it warm up completely while idling, but rather let it warm up for 30-60 seconds, and then take it easy the rest of the way. The Kawi tech @ the dealership where I bought the bike actually told me to wait until the temp hit 120 before I ride off. Usually by the time I start the bike, finishing putting on my gear, and turn the bike around it's @ 120.

someone asked about the temp getting up to 208... the themostat in the bike is between 200 and 210 so you shouldn't see it get much warmer than that. but +1 to everyone that said get a reading on the gauge and then take it easy for a bit, other than warming the water you are warming the oil, bearings, transmission etc so its not just about the motor temp

are you sure? the fans come on at 210 (ish), but the thermostat could be wide open at 180... my bike runs perfectly stable at 150 in cold weather. does that mean my bike never warms up? [:M92]and there is something wrong with my thermostat?[:M74] im just speculating

I ride out when my temerature shows at 104. My bike usually sticks around 200-213 degrees while riding. And its not even summer yet!

i will double check the themostat temp, but you're absolutely right, it could be open at 180. i'll get back to you when i take a peek through the service manual.

yea i just through out a number, because in the coldest of weather, mine runs 150. but 180-210 is normal. i gotta get a service manual

Checked the service manual and I mispoke. The themostat spec in the manual says it should open between 136 and 144 and be wide open at 167.
As far as the fans go, they did not say when they should come on but I too have noticed they kick on between 200 and 210.

Thanks for straightening me out.

I let my bike idle up to 120 (Choked) then i usually have all my gear on and ride out

my fans come on @ 219 (it's a ZZR)

When i first got my bike, it was maybe 30* out that night and on the highway, it read 137* !!

In traffic, it'll heat up to 190-220 (@ that point, i just turn the bike off until the light turns green)

normal days i see 180* with normal driving
