What size is the front sprocket nut?

Started replacing my chain and sprockets last night and got stuck on the front sprocket nut. I didn't have a socket big enough, so I tried, and failed, with a crescent wrench. Couldn't find the nut size in the manual. Anyone know what size socket I need to go pick up? Oh, and if it's reverse-threaded, that would be helpful to know, too :)

It was a total biznatch to find it. If ur srrious about workin on ur bike, invest in a socket kit. Got mine from napa.
Groovy. Thanks for the tips.

UPDATE: I found the socket alone for $1.49 @ a local Harbor Freight. I'm hoping that with a nice long breaker bar will be all I need. A whole set and impact wrench will have to wait for now :(

I'd seriously try and trailer it to a tire shop and throw someone $5 to use their impact on it.

If you strip that thing, you're going to want to kick yourself in the balls. Don't take these guys lightly, that thing is a BITCH to get off.

Grab a torque wrench at harbor freight while youre at it.

I tried that, too, but I couldn't break it loose. I ended up renting an impact wrench, and got it off in about 2 seconds. Best $25 I ever spent. Now that I know, I'll just invest in one for next time.

I've got a sort of mental vision of some ancient embittered WWll vet creeping around the production line with a hidden bottle of green Loctite and hitting all the bikes destined for the West.

It can be a bitch to get off, especially if its never been off before, or you arent a big muscle guy....
I only use impact guns to get off front sprocket nuts. Too much of a waste of time to futz around trying to muscle it off. And most of the time it takes a few hits from the gun to loosen it up.
Its regular thread btw
