i just got home from riding and there is a whinig noise coming from the gas tank / air box area where the two seem together even though the bike is turned off. it does it every couple mins and last for about 5 to 10 seconds. its a 05 636 with 120 miles, 40 of which i just rode today. i took it real easy until i hit 100 miles then took it up to 8 grand a couple of times just to put a slight load on the engine. even then it was only at half throttle. what the hell could this be. its been doing this for 30 min now.

it is normal. when you ride the gas tank w/ gas is warmed up by being so close to the engine. Therefore the tank is pressurized. when you shut down the bike the gasoline cools down and the pressurized gas is cools and condensed sucking in air from out side to fill the void. if the tank didn't do this, your tank will crush under the negative pressures.
