I just got picked up a new 250R last week and been riding it all week here in NJ. I noticed that the cooling fan only came on once and then never again. I would think with the how hots its been the fan would be running more often. Is there anyway to test this and more sure everyting is working?

warm bike up until fan comes on, if fan never comes on, listen to ******.

if fan comes on, it's fine. it should only run about around 215deg and when the bike is stationary
He speaks the troof. If you spend most of your riding actually moving at a decent pace, then your fan may not turn on at all. At the hottest and most humid here in VA (around 100F), my bike sits around 200F while cruising down the interstate (if there's no stopping involved).

You can test to make sure the switch that turns the fan on works by unplugging it and shorting the two terminals together on the plug. Your fan should kick on whether or not your key is in "on". That's true with my bike anyways. Remember that the switch that turns the fan on is connected to the radiator and is just an "on/off" switch, but the element in your engine block gives you the actual read out on your gage cluster. Just FYI because I've seen many people mistake the switch on their radiator for the one that gives you the temp read out.
