bars dont hit the tank, and the steering lock dosnt work right now, but i can make it work, just never cared as i never ever have used it. You need to make a new hole otherwise the bike is almost straight when the wheel is locked...
Ben

just to confirm you used the 03 bottom yoke with your original stem pressed into it, then your original top yoke?
you also mention a sleeve for the top yoke, where does this need to go? and where would you need to put the new hole for the steering lock to work?
reason i ask is ive just bought a set of 04 forks with the bottom yoke, front wheel and braking assembly. and need to know what else i need to buy before i start trying to fit, so any advice you can offer will be much apreciated.
thanx :D

you need both triple clamps upper and lower, and you need to press in your origonal steering stem into the 03-06 stuff. You need to make a sleeve to fit inside the hole for the top triple and around the origonal 98-02 stem becuase it is not as big as the area in the top triple and when on hard breaking it moves (i found out the hard way)

cool man, i was browsing your ebay history and saw you were buying the stuff, so i knew it was soon. BTW hows it going in the new place and everything with the bike and all?
Ben

You should just have the 636 stem cut into a sleeve, that is what i had done. The guy said he just cut that part out and bam, sleeve. It is a tad short of exact length but just barely off. Fit great for me, just working on getting the steering lock to work without having to do something drastic. Hijack, i was thinking a cbr triple, i started a new thread on it.

just wondering....

is that the 98-02 zx6r? or is it originally an older model?

i have a 97 ZX6R F and was looking very happy when i saw the R6 tail swap as i wanted to do that but in the pics i noticed a lack of subframe during the build.

if u can tell me as much about the bike originally possible would be good.
thanks

its a 98, you would need to cut the stock subframe off your model and weld on mounts for a new one. Bike doesn't even look remotely like that anymore lol, i got a 08 zx6r subframe and tail on, and 03/04 rest of the bodywork, and soon to have a 03/04 tank for my fuil injection setup and big bore engine. I had a 03/04 636 engine in my bike for awhile also, but sold it due to needing money...

Maybe a dumb question, but for the rear swap did you use the R6 seat or the ZX6R seat?

Also w/ your 08 ZXR rear swap now, how did that go? Details?

Great looking bike man, enjoy.

R6 seat and hacked it up a little bit....As for my 08 tail now, that was not bad but i had to weld 4 plates/mounts to the back of the frame for it, and make 2 top brackets for the top of the subframe. I need to make a tank mount on the subframe now also, but i am not doing that until i put the 636 tank on as it mounts different. I also need to make the side covers but i cant do that until i swap my frames as the one on my bike now is cracked, and i need the 636 tank on so i can make them line up right and mount up right. Hopefully in about a month or so it will be close to done, and in about 2 months it should be done with paint and carbon side covers, and fuel injection etc...

damn dude that is awesome. but put some real paint on it. flat black is cool and all, but if i had put all that work into it, i'd want some shiny paint so everyone would notice it.

Yeah well this thread is real old and my bike is 100% different now....lol

Hey i know this thread is old but i was wanting to do that tail swap and i was curious if you ever had a passanger on the tail or if u think it would hold up to that with it mounted that way
I was interested in doing the tail swap, got the parts but never did the swap. I don't have the time, so if you are anyone else is interested I have most the parts needed.

- 06 subframe, battery, front seat, tail fairings + cowl

Already painted black.
