its on the ignition in an area that cant be seen unless you remove it. the code on the seat lock only works on the seat and the gas cap. the code under the gas cap is not a key code and will be different than the seat lock. it is just 4 numbers, while the seat lock follows the previous info i posted.

Alright so if i really wanted to see the code i would have to take the ignition out and check it out. Thanks for the info .

Is it true thatwhen you go to get another key made you need a red key? Bought my bike used, so no red key. I have the original key number on the original paperwork when the bike was bought. So could I just give the locksmith that z#### code and he can cut me a key or am i just FUCKED! FML!

I bought my brand new bike from a Kawasaki dealer and got two keys with my bike both are black. If you have the original key you can buy a blank key and a good locksmith should be able to duplicate it.

You buy a blank key and make a duplicate using the one key you have.

If you lost the key your dealer should be able to get one with the key number you have.

Thanks, thats kind of good to hear, Would I have to go to the original dealership or any? Also, what is that number for?

when my key got stolen I took the seat lock and the gas cap of my 06 ZX6r to get them scoped at a locksmith. Got a call 20 min. later saying the guy found the code on the seat lock, punched it in the computer, and it worked on everything, including the ignition.

That's exactly what I was told at the dealer.

:)

I bought 3 blank copys from ebay and had them cut at my neighborhood hardware store... they all worked fine... the whole thing cost me less than 15 dollars and now i have 4 keys incase i lose one... actually i have one with me, one at my girls house, one at my moms house and one at my best friends house... that way i got a couple of choices if my key ever gets lost....

SWEET!!!

I bought a blank from eBay once for my old 03 ZX6RR but I haven't bought one for my new 06 ZX6R.

I need to get me one, I have two keys but you never know.

:D

So let me get this straight, all you need is that code in this format Z#### (I think I have it) and everything will be ok? Did you have to purchase a special key from some where? Does it have a ship that needs to be programmed? (I have an 05 zx6r)

Did you have to have the original key to make the copies?

Thank you for all your help. Definatly appreciate it!

Nevermind about the programmed chip thing... It turns out that the american models never kame with the KISS system. So no immoboliser key! Sorry for being such a noob...
