So has anyone confirmed that the 00-02 front and side fairings will fit? Also, is there a platform that has the same headers for a more varied selection? Lastly, the bodystyle for the 95 zx6 and zx6r are completely identical, correct?

I can tell you the 95 zx6 and zx6R are NOT identical at all.

can anyone please tell me what 600 engine will fit on a 96 zx6....im going to buy this bike for 100 bucks and it had thrown a rod and needs an engine but still a good deal on this bike it looks to be in very good condition but needs the engine...with the quick glance i took at the case after i saw the hole in it i know some of the numbers are zx600d, if it makes a difference, i was kind of looking for a newer engine possibly if all wiring and electronics are the same

if its a 96 its not a zx600d, its a zx600e
and only motors from a zx600d or zx600e will fit.

this thread pertains to zx600f's so its not relevant for you.

1995 ZX6R Exhaust headers, and fork rebuild or replacement?

I'm new to the group and new to the ZX6R, just picked up my first Kawasaki, a 1995 ZX6R (F1) that I am hoping to get whipped back into shape and on the track soon. :devil3:

I'll post the progress with some pictures to the Old School ZX6R Projects thread this weekend...

The exhaust and exhaust headers are extremely rusted on this bike. Will any other exhaust headers fit? So far it has been hard to track down any that cost less than what I paid for the bike.

Also, I gather from reading other threads that the stock 41mm forks are probably the best 41mm forks around, and that rebuilding them and upgrading springs/damping with racetech or ohlins componenets is probably my best option. Is this a valid conclusion or are there better front suspension options out there that I can swap in?

Thanks in advance for any advice,
Shady

I know someone else asked this question before, but I haven't seen an answer...

I know with time/money any fairing can fit any bike...BUT

Does the 00-02 front/side fairings fit a 97 ZX6R directly? any modification needed?

Thanks.

I asked this before... but noone knows.

I tell you though, it LOOKS like all the mounting points match up.

it looks like you could even swap around a 98-02 upper on 95-97 sides.. the three holes and angle are the same.

Lets try this again I just had it all typed out and when I went to post it the forum said I wasn't logged in and I lost it all

I have 98-02 fairings on my bike so here's what I know. Lets start with the tail fairing. You will need to drill a new hole on each side of the subframe and make brackets to mount the rear. Here's some pics

The fuel tank is a direct bolt on.

The side fairings need a new mounting bracket made for the top and the lower bolts into the bracket from the old fairing. I had to use the 98-02 coolant bottle to get my fairings to fit the frame. The holes in the new fairings are lower so the brackets I made bolt to the old holes on the frame, bend inward then down again. If you use a straight bracket the fairings will flare away from the frame and not look right. Here's some pics

The 95-97 and 98-99 front fairings may look the same but the arent. The headlight mounting holes are different and they are shaped alittle different on the bottom. I still have the 95-97 front fairing on my bike but I bought a new 98-99 on ebay last week so as soon as it gets here I'll know more. The 3 holes that bolt to the side fairings don't match up either

thanks, this is great stuff to know.

so that last picture, thats 98-02 sides with a 95-97 front, right?

I actually want to do the inverse; I want an 00-02 front to mate to my 95-97 sides... would that be easier or harder do you think?

Yes this is the 95-97 front with the 98-99 sides and as you can see it lines up good on the sides but not so good on the front. With the 00-02 front I believe you will have to change the gauge cluster for it to fit. I may end up with a 00-02 front if I can pick up all the parts cheap enough and I'll use a trailtech vapor for my gauges
