I tried this thread a few weeks ago and it was shut down on the pre tense that there is already a DIY ( How to's and FAQ's) forum. My argument was that it is fraught with pandemonium and chaos with all the various models and it would make more sense to have a DIY thread in each specific model froum instead of a froum for all models' DIY's

well yeah, we are still going to see stupid people making stupid threads, but hopefully this will cut down on it a little bit.

it's a sticky now.. so hopefully the original poster will continue to edit it with more helpful threads that come up...

as for the stock seat... it doesn't hurt my ass that bad.. and i have a boney ass.. haha..

Not sure if you care about links to other forums... but there is a great write up on the ninja250 forum about removing the carbs...

http://forums.ninja250.org/viewtopic.php?p=660349#660349
I'm not really sure how the mods feel about articles from other forums but the link you gave me really didn't answer any pressing how to or diy questions... it did have some good information on what tools are needed for different jobs but it lacked pictures and didn't really solve any specific problems (ex: the needle jets mod in one of the FAQ's shows how to do the mod and other posts in the thread clarify the benefits of it)
so for now I'm going to leave that link off if there are no objections

i instaled a sigma computer. model BC 906
theres a writup at ninja250.org.
i basically got it so i can see my actual mph.
it has some other cool features too.
cost $25 from local bike shop.
install time was about a half hour.
this sounds useful, can anyone provide links or does anyone want to volunteer to do a write up?

ok heres how to hook up the computer.
i bought the BC906 model for $25.
i used a 2 part fast set adhesive to mount the magnet and signal pickup.
u need to keep the magnet close to the sensor 5mm max, mines set about 3mm.
all u need to do is set the wheel size, it's super easy and a lot of useful info.

here i mounted it on the handlebar via double stick tape

here u can see the sensor i mounted to the fork. i zip tied the wire to the fork and brake hose (leave slack in the wire for the suspension travel) i used the fast set adhesive for this also.

heres where i mounted the magnet to the rotor. i scuffed with a red scotch brite. and covered the magnet in the fast set adhesive and stuck it where i wanted it.

I did this install and it is very easy and useful, I really like having an accurate speed reading and a clock. I installed the Sigma BC1906 (found one for $25) because it has an indiglo type of back light for night riding.

Also, for anybody else that does the install the stock wheel measurement to input into the computer is 1803(mm).

I was getting kind of sick of searching through all of the pages of "Look I have a new bike!"(but no pics) threads to find useful information so I compiled a list of some of the good DIY threads and mod threads I may have missed some while going through 40+ pages so if you see anything good to add let me know.

that's cool, i didn't think of a back lit model when i got mine. i did notice that the stock odometer is off by about 3% though. i pretty much just wanted it for actual MPH and a clock.

Ok...
I will be 16 this month...
i have yet to get a job...
but when i do and i save up money i was thinking about getting a 250R...
because they are cheap, great on gas, and nice...
would that be a good bike for a beginner like me???
and would there be anything that i would need to change right away???
has anything bad gone wrong with anyone's yet???
Please post a seperate thread in the 250R forum. Your post has nothing to do with the content of this thread. Thanks.... "skeets". :)
